Well made, warm, comfy
I'm usually a 10.5 wide, but with these there was a little too much room. Started wearing 2 pairs of socks and now they fit great. They're a little bulky, but pretty light. Very well made, warm, waterproof. I've worn them out in the snow and my feet stayed dry and warm. They don't have the highest level of cushion so plan on putting in a gel insole, but I do that with just about every shoe. If they had more cushion they'd be perfect, but they're pretty close as is. Still very comfy.

Fantastic lightweight Hiker
The Merrell Men’s Moab Speed 2 Mid GTX has quickly become one of my favorite trail companions. Right out of the box, the comfort level is impressive—no break-in period needed. The cushioning feels balanced and supportive, with enough responsiveness to handle long days on varied terrain. The GORE-TEX waterproofing is a standout feature. Wet grass, puddles, light rain—none of it gets through, yet the shoe remains breathable enough that my feet never feel overly warm or swampy. The mid-height design adds a reassuring level of ankle support without feeling bulky. Traction is excellent thanks to the rugged outsole; it grips rock, dirt, and loose gravel with confidence. The shoe is also surprisingly lightweight for how durable it feels, making it easy to keep moving without fatigue. Overall, the Moab Speed 2 Mid GTX offers a perfect combination of comfort, protection, and performance. Whether you're tackling long hikes, weekend trails, or everyday outdoor adventures, these shoes deliver reliability and comfort every step of the way. Highly recommended!

Real review -Moab speedgoat 2 , mid
These shoes seems Durable. The virbram bottom and goretex is what sold me on these . The fit is great. The toe box is wide like the Moab’s. I have wide feet and I didn’t have to buy a wide size. They are warm and comfortable. They are waterproof but I don’t know how waterproof. I only went hiking in these 1 time . I will hit the snow very soon so I hope they are good. I chose these Over Altra and Hoka’s. I am a normal person who bought this for myself after researching a bunch of different hiking shoes. I wanted to try this cause it seems like the brand has been making an effort to step it up with new styles and colorways. Seems like the brand has finally listened to the customers and started making what the people wanted.

Great fit and lightweight
This is a great hiking shoe. It definitely is waterproof. First time wearing them they fit perfect and very comfortably. Hope they will last long for the price sake. But a worthy investment.

Defective factory second
The Merrill boots were sold by Amazon, shipped by Zappos for $191. One shoe had an arrow sticker pointing to a factory defect at the sole to boot seam. I would have found the defect without the sticker, but it is an obvious admission that Amazon is charging for grade A product and Zappos is shipping factory seconds, while Merrell is passing QC inspection. Zappos website has them on sale for $138. I called Zappos, they said they don’t sell factory seconds... Box had a “QC3OK” sticker on inside of box. I’m not sure who is scamming customers - Merrell, Amazon, or Zappos.

So Far So Good
I am moving from the Moab 2 Mids Leather. I have had them for many many years and they have been amazing. I love the bottoms for the grip like glue on boulders and ledges. I was looking for durability, the same grip, and a bit more cushion. The Speed 2's have the same vibro bottoms, and they seem to grip the same so far. The GTX is not near as breathable, but that is the trade off for waterproof. There is definitely more cushion. This comes with a bit of rise feeling and less ground feel, but it takes away a lot of the compression in the knees and hips. The toe bed is more wide on the Speed 2's. I'm going to have to put more miles on them to make a solid decision on this. I believe the rest of the shoe and the correct lacing will alleviate too much forward slide (inside the boot...toes to the front) as to offset the wide toe bed. The sock like tongue is an upgrade for sure. The weight is quite light, but the Speed 2's feel a bit more substantial; I don't want to sat a bit clunky. Pro tip. Get a good scotch guard spray and spray them twice before wearing. They will shed dust and dirt and will remain easily washable for extra years!
